This week we take a trip to Hudson, Ohio where we visit the Ohio State Reformatory, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and try some delicious pizza at 3 Palms Pizzeria in downtown Hudson, OH. The Ohio State Reformatory is a 250,000 square foot prison that is famously known as the filming site of The Shawshank Redemption.
This week we are in Jackson Center, Ohio wasting time while our window is getting replaced. Over the course of a week we went on manufacturing tours for the Airstream Basecamp as well as the Airstream Atlas and Airstream Interstates. We ate pizza, got coffee at an Airstream coffee shop, installed a stainless steel exhaust vent, and generally wasted as much time as possible.
We had two windows break in our Airstream camper! As we were driving through Kansas, we experienced some pretty high winds. The winds were 20-30mph with gusts that reached over 40 mph. Nick noticed something hanging out of the window, so we pulled over to find a broken side window.
Come with us for an amazing week, following our flat tire ordeal, where we stay in the Davis Mountains Campground, hike some amazing trails, visit Fort Davis National Historic Site, and go to a star party at the McDonald Observatory.
How much can your truck tow? Want to understand payload and towing capacity? Are you overloaded, in anticipation of the upcoming camping season? We decided to weigh our truck and Airstream with SmartWeigh and CAT scales and breakdown the differences between the two.
After our flat tire ordeal, we stopped in Deming, New Mexico. Our goal was to relax a little after the Rally in Tucson and we mostly accomplished that. We stopped in for burritos at Irma's and hiked around looking for Ibex.
We left the Escapee's Escapade on our way to RockHound State Park in Deming, NM. A few miles west of Wilcox, Arizona our tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) alerted us that we had a fast leak in our driver's side rear tire on the Airstream. We immediately pulled over on the side of the interstate to investigate. We called roadside assistance to help.
This week we spent some time in Safford, Arizona as well as visited Fort Bowie National Historic Site in Bowie, Arizona. Fort Bowie is a historic outpost in Arizona and we took a hike around the NPS site. The story of what happened in the area is fascinating.
Join us on our adventure to seek more community while being on the road full time as we attend Escapees Escapade 2025 in Tucson Arizona. From vendors to entertainment and seminars, we'll walk you through all of the things we did during this week long Rally.
Following Joshua Tree National Park, we stopped into an Escapees park in Congress, Arizona. North Ranch is a great park that has pickle ball courts, a cactus garden and sometimes has smart weigh available.
After our trip to Death Valley, we make our way to Joshua Tree National Park. First, we spend the night at a Harvest Host in Barstow, California. While here we change out our sail switch on our furnace.
Explore the breathtaking landscape of Death Valley National Park, California, and experience the lowest point in America, Badwater Basin, which sits 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is the hottest location in the United States, reaching 134ยบ F in July 1913, the highest termperature on record.
Are you planning a camping trip to a national park and wondering if a 25-foot RV is too long? We were told over and over again when we upgraded to the 27 foot trailer that we would be limiting our ability to stay in National Parks.
After nearly 2 weeks of boondocking, we drive 2 hours to Boulder City and stay at Lake Mead RV Village. This campground has much needed full-hookups, fantastic views of the lake, plenty of hiking and biking trails, as well as a gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It's a great way to relax, with the comforts of a big city nearby.
Join us as we dive into the world of Xscapers and explore the 2025 Annual Bash! It is the ultimate convergence and a highly anticipated event from Escapees RV Club that brings together like-minded individuals who share a passion for adventure and off-grid living. But is it really worth it?
The upgrades to our airstream allows us to dry camp much easier than we did before. With enough sun, our only limiting factor is how long we can make our water last, or how long we can keep our Gray and Black tanks empty.
We stopped in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana to visit with family over the holidays. While there we took a tour of the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, also known as the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve to learn about South Louisiana's history and the Cajun culture.
Join us on an epic adventure as we explore the historic LBJ Ranch and visit some of the best local breweries in ONE DAY! From learning about President Lyndon B. Johnson's legacy to sampling some of the tastiest craft beers in the area, this video is packed with excitement and education.
Are you preparing your Airstream for the freezing temperatures ahead? Winterizing your RV is crucial to prevent damage and ensure a smooth camping experience when the weather warms up.
Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we explore the historic Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas!
Join us as we uncover the hidden gems of Brazos Valley, Texas! From an exceptional Harvest Host Brewery to a Light Parade, and from a unique state park with a golf course to a short drive into San Antonio to explore mission.
How much does it cost to live in your RV full-time? We got on the road May 1, 2024. We have numerous spreadsheets and data points in this video while trying to keep boring stuff entertaining. We review what it really costs to live full-time in your RV. In our 8 months of travel in 2024, we tracked our expenses and share them with you.
From May of 2024 until now we have been traveling full time in our 27 foot Airstream Flying Cloud. We have had such an amazing time that we are heading into 2025 with some plans to meet more people and take advantage of memberships that we have.
What are our plans for 2025?
We are bouncing around a little bit, but will get back to our stay in Lafayette Louisiana just after the new year. This week we stayed at a Harvest Host in Spring, Texas. Fortress Brewing was a great place to stay for a night and meet with some friends in the area. After our night at the brewery, we drove by the new Bass Pro Shop and then headed on to Spring Creek Park in Tomball, Texas.
It's been a wild couple of weeks since we left the Florida Caverns. We crashed an Airstream Rally and made some friends near Dothan Alabama, then we headed through Mobile and into Louisiana.
We spent one night at Florida Caverns State Park. While there, we tried to make the most of our time by hiking around the park, visiting the Caverns Museum as well as taking a tour of the cave. You can also go swimming at Blue Hole, which is a frosty 64 degrees year-round.
While visiting Disney World, we stayed at KOA Orlando Southwest. This is conveniently located in Davenport, FL right off of I-4 and Highway 27. The drive to any of the Disney parks is approximately 30 minutes or less, depending on traffic. You are also not too far away from Universal Parks.
In our last of three service appointments, we stopped at Master Applied Coatings in Tallahassee Florida to get our Airstream and Our Truck ceramic coated. Master Applied's ceramic coating is the preventative measure that keeps the outside of your investment looking like the day you bought it. The solid coating protects from scratches, oxidation and corrosion.
We stopped in Tallahassee on our way to Orlando to drop the Airstream off for one more service appointment at Master Applied Coatings. Before we get there, we made a stop at Coe Landing Campground and had a great two nights there in a very small campground. We had some gorgeous sunsets and amazing walks in the area. We stopped at Talquin State Forrest and did a little bit of driving around a little bit of hiking. There were too many miquitoes to continue, but it was still a great area.
We stayed at the Eastbank COE Campground on Lake Seminole in Brainbridge, GA, right on the Georgia-Florida state line. This Corps of Engineers campground has three loops, all sites have power, water, and there is a dump station on the way out of the park. The Eastbank Campground is right next to the Jim Woodruff Dam, which is fun to walk on.
After leaving Airstream Nuts & Bolts we had every intention of dry camping for 3 nights to test out our new installs. We stayed at China Grove Christmas Tree Farm, which was a great Harvest Host, though the host wasn't around that weekend, they were eager to communicate and let us know what to expect. There were a few dogs on the property that would come around every once in a while, but they didn't bother us other than barking a bit.
When we set out on our journey traveling the country, we knew that we wanted to get some upgrades and do some modifications to our Airstream to make it better for near full time travel. We completed some of these ourselves, like the Airkrafters Erpods and the Microair Thermostat. But when it came to some of the larger upgrades, we wanted them to be done professionally to know that they were done so well that they would never create any problems.
While our Airstream was with Ronnie, Tera and John at Airstream Nuts and Bolts getting a ton of upgrades, we spent the week in the area of Dadeville looking for fun things to do. Ronnie was more than happy to give us a few ideas, including Horseshoe Bend National Military Park and The Smith Mountain Fire Tower. Both were great finds and interesting.
What do you do when you check in for a campground and the reservation was lost? We found out this week. We visited Oak Mountain State Park near Birmingham Alabama. Some of our time was spent working, but we also got to go on a hike in the park to an overlook that was a bit underwhelming, should that be called an underlook?
This stop takes us to Joe Wheeler State Park in northern Alabama. We started this trip saying that Alabama is the Country's best kept secret because neither of us knew how great it was. Joe Wheeler is a great park with plenty to do if you like boating or fishing. The campground and day use areas are spectacular. In 2020 a tornado hit the park and destroyed the day use area as well as the campground loops of B and C. The state rebuilt these and made them wonderful.
We spent a few days with friends in Nashville, Tennessee where we were able to go up to Broadway and walk the strip there, specifically having a drink at Jon Bon Jovi's bar and at Blake Shelton's Bar. Both were fun and every place there had live music.
We're heading south with the goal being to be in Dadeville Alabama in early October in order to have service done on our Airstream. This week we stayed in Kentucky at the Eureka State Recreation Area near the land between lakes. Eureka Campground sits on Lake Barkley among wooded rolling hills and abundant wildlife.
We stayed at a haunted campground which is located next to the state's largest prison. Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site is located in Southern Illinois and is known for its history. It is a 200-acre park near Chester, Illinois, on a blufftop overlooking the Mississippi River. Lewis and Clark stopped here in 1803 and recruited tradesmen to accompany them on their expedition up the Mississippi River. Fort Kaskaskia is also home to Garrison Hill Cemetery.
Continuing this journey we made our first of three service stops when we rolled in to Wentzville Missouri. We purchased our Airstream from Bill Thomas just over a year ago and we stopped in for two reasons.
Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we explore Utah's EPIC landmarks in Moab, Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park! In this video, we take you through breathtaking landscapes, stunning rock formations, and iconic vistas that make these parks a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
After months of feeding our Starlink cable through the front storage compartment of our Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBQ, under our bed and to the router, we finally made the update to the outside of the Airstream and fished a cable inside in order to have a clean install.
While we were in Oklahoma I had a few things that needed to be done on the airstream. Cleaning the AC return, cleaning the front windows, and lubricating the door latch mechanism.
We staying near Chattanooga, TN for a week at Lineman RV Park. There are so many things to do in Chattanooga, there was no way we could see everything. We picked a few place we thought would be fun, interesting, and a little educational - Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park seeing both Chickamauga Battlefield and Point Park, Cloudland Canyon State Park, Lodge Museum of Cast Iron, and riding the Incline Railway to the top of Lookout Mountain.
Our stop in North Carolina took us to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a scenic drive and a few stops. Crabtree Falls was a great 3 mile hike and had a payoff of being able to stop at the water fall for about 30 minutes to take it all in. Our stop in Little Switzerland gave us some perspective of the small towns that thrive on tourism. The Switzerland Lodge has an amazing overlook to the mountains and the Switzerland Cafe had an amazing lunch for us.
Cleaning the AC return on an Airstream can be a real pain in the neck. Luckily Phill from NOLOX has a kit that can help with that.
We have been in Central Florida for 5 weeks and found out fast that in the heat of the day, a tin can in the sun, doesn't like to cool off.
We spent the last month near Orlando, Florida. The whole stay was done at Johnston Springs RV Park in Kissimmee. The video walks through the goods and bads of the park, looking at the offerings at the park (dog park, volleyball court, bath house, laundry, ponds, and mail delivery).
This is how we do laundry while living full-time in our rv, an Airstream Flying Cloud.
Starlink V3 is a GODSEND for RV Living & Buffalo National River
We visited Arkansas in May and had a wonderful time at Buffalo National River. During our trip, we got to go on some great hikes, we went fishing on the river, and we spent hours kayaking down the river.
Digging for Diamonds and Visiting Hot Springs National Park - Did we find some?
We went digging for diamonds ๐ at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas and explored bathhouse row ๐ at Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This was en route to the main stop of our trip, Buffalo Point Campground.
Sticky Airstream Windows (Solved) and Palo Dura State Park, Canyon TX
Our next stop on the first leg of this journey took us to Palo Duro State Park in Canyon, Texas. Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. In a lot of ways, I thought it was a little more impressive than the Grand Canyon. The most glaring difference is how easy it is to get to the bottom of the canyon.
We did a few hikes around the area we were staying in, the Hackberry Campground.
After Cherry Creek State Park, we made our way south to Trinidad Lake State Park in Trinidad, Colorado. Not a long trip, but a good one in between campgrounds. Here we were able to go on a few really fun hikes including Levsa Canyon Trail, some of Reilly Canyon Trail as well as a few walks around the lake.
We Sold Our House, We're on the Road + Dewinterizing the Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB
A little surprise in this video, we sold our house and are hitting the road! That doesn't change our plans to head to Oklahoma and Arkansas this summer, but it did create an opportunity to get out and do some more camping earlier in the season.
We are getting ready for a busy camping season. In preparation we spent some time making sure everything survived the winter as well as figuring out how to use our limited space while we plan a multi-week trip.
2 Quick RV Upgrades - Changing to USB-C outlets and replacing Airstream Storage Locks
This week we installed our new Micro-Air Easy Touch Thermostat, replacing our Domestic thermostat that came installed in our Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBQ. This was a very simple install and we spent a little time near the end of the video showing off the bluetooth connectivity.
We go through and discuss the tools we carry in our Airstream and how we use them. These are some must-have tools for us while we travel.
Would you like to tour our 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud 27 ft with a queen bed and a hatch? Come along as we show you the inside of our 27' Flying Cloud.
With 4" of snow forecasted for tomorrow, it's time we wrap up the camping season by winterizing our 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBQ. We take you through the steps week took to winterize our Airstream Flying Cloud.
While boon docking, we decided to use our oven in our Airstream 27FBQ. Today we make Betty Crocker's Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies! This recipe is easy, it would be easier to not make all by hand; but was fun to try baking these chocolate chip cookies.
We boondocked in our Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB for the first time while visiting Rio Grande National Forest in the San Juan Mountains. The campground is located at Big Meadows Reservoir in South Fork, CO. The location is very remote - no hookups, no city lights, and cell phone service. We enjoyed our days by hiking the Cascade Falls trail as well as the Meadows Loop which goes around the entire Big Meadows Reservoir. We also fished the Big Meadows Reservoir for rainbow trout. Getting away to such a remote location was extremely relaxing.
Our first official trip with the Airstream Flying Cloud is in the books and it took us to Sugarite Canyon State Park, just east of Raton, New Mexico. The state park had a ton to offer! We were there for 3 nights.
The Lake Alice campground had water and electrical hookups as well as a dump station on the way out. Camphosts were awesome and we were told twice that we had the best spot in the Lake Alice campground and all of the Sugarite Canyon State Park. Showers were available near the ranger station on the south side entrance. It was a quick walk to the lake-to-lake trailhead.
Prior to our first camping trip, we installed a few things in our 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FQ: a leveling system, a tire pressure monitoring system, and battery-operated LED lights in the bathroom.
The LevelMate Pro+ install https://levelmate.com was an easy install and only took a few minutes. The install of the Tire Minder TPMS i10 system https://www.tireminder.com proved to be a little more challenging. Once we got everything figured out, it became more clear what was going on. And we briefly discuss the setting configuration options as well as the different alerts for the TireMinder TPMS.
We purchased a new 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBQH! Last week we said goodbye to our 2018 Airstream Basecamp 16 , check out that video https://youtu.be/66ujit3m__w This week we talk through purchasing our new Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBQ with hatch from Bill Thomas RV https://www.btcamper.com in Wentzville, MO. Bill Thomas RV is a Five Rivet Dealer and one of the oldest Airstream dealerships in the US. We are very excited about our new 2023 27' Airstream travel trailer. It has so much extra space!
